Creations Cafe

My family headed out for a pre-Mother's Day dinner at the Red Lion Grog House, but they were hosting a private party. (On a Saturday night?) We decided to head over to Creations Cafe since I had never been there before.

We were seated in a booth with a perfect view of the staff setting up for the Mother's Day brunch. They offer a decent selection of micro beers. I asked for the Founders Porter but they were out so I went with the Breckenridge Vanilla Porter ($3.75). It was good and the vanilla really added something to it so I was happy with the switch.

I was thrilled to see they offered a Greek salad with seared tuna. I could write a novel about ahi tuni. Unfortunately they were also out of the tuna. It wasn't my night. I went with the Turkey Cobb Salad ($10) and chose their maple-ginger vinaigrette. It was a traditional, good cobb salad. I thought the bowl they used was a little small, but that could just be me. They didn't skimp on any of the ingredients like some places. The turkey pieces were a little dry but the delicious dressing more than make up for it. The ginger definitely came out and the maple didn't overwhelm.

The others in my group ordered the Waikiki wrap ($10) and the Gobbler($8.25). The Waikiki had steak (cooked to your preference) with a back bean salsa that gave it some kick. It wasn't overly spicy, and the heat worked well with the pineapple. The Gobbler was, you guessed it, a turkey sandwich with bacon and an avocado mayo. It was pretty much what you would expect from a turkey sandwich but the sourdough and mayo gave it an edge.

I think the best thing we ate all night would have to be the fries that came with the entrees. I'm no French Fry expert, but these were nothing like you find at a fast food joint. They were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I didn't ask, but I'm pretty sure they cut them on site. We ordered a side for dessert.

Even though I didn't get the beer or salad I wanted, I was happy enough to want to come back again. The total bill for the night came to $41.56 for three entrees and two beers.
